Q&A: DREAMHOST IS KEEPING MY DOMAIN HOSTAGE!!! THEY CAN ONLY BE REACHED BY EMAIL? WTF?
Jan 2nd
Question by j.arcin:
Dreamhost is keeping my domain hostage!!! They can only be reached by email? WTF?
Does anyone know of a way to contact dreamhost.com? I am having a large problem with them and they only have an email address. My domain was shut down because a huge company had an issue with the fact that my name and their name shared a similar word. I cant get into specifics but think of it as if I opened an on the web shoe store and called it shoelocker.com. Then Footlocker demands that I get shut down. Since I did the same type of business they were afraid that people would confuse me for them. I dont have the same logo, color sheme, or web design, but still I was a huge threat somehow. So they sent dreamhost an email asking for my info or that they shut the domain down. Dreamhost shut me down. I comprehend this was for my protection, but now I cant upload to my domain. I ended up building a separate store on godaddy. Made sure that there was no way it would fall intyo the same problem and it is now ready to go. But I had TONS of returning customers and I also did TONS of promotions for that domain name. My next move is to simply redirect that domain to my new store BUT…Dreamhost wont give me access to alter or upload to it. They locked it! I usually have an edit button which gives me the option of redirecting, mirroring, or even changing the dns to point tot he new hosting company. But now that button is not there for that domain only! So I cant do it. Also they only comunicate through email, this was never an issue with me because they always respond within 2 hours or so, i have had them for years. But now it has beeen three days and no response! I have emailed them 3 times! What gives?!?!?! Is this legal? They are holding my domain hostage and I dont even know what the ransom is or how to contact the kidnapper. Any ideas?
My domain registrar is definately dreamhost. the issue is that they only grant comunication through email but arent responding. So I cant get very far. Yes I did receive emails that I did not respond to, but in all honesty I just assumed they were newsletters or other random mail I receive from them. I am automatically billed so I dont check theior mail EVER. I know this sounds bad, but if it really was an issue they could have called me or sent snail mail. They have options on contacting me. I have no options on contacting them. no phone number or anything. Just an on the web help form to fill out.
I RECEIVED THIS E-MAIL TODAY AND I THINK IT IS A SCAM. CAN YAHOO CHECK THIS?

Question by brilliance at work:
I received this e-mail this day and I think it is a scam. Can Yahoo check this?
This e-mail was sent to me. This looks like a scam. What bureau can I send it to for possible prosecution?
