FIRST PAGE RANKINGS ALL THAT MATTER?
May 4th
Question by amishdudeia:
First Page Rankings all that matter?
I have a website that is for on the web classified ads, so I do not have any product to sell in a “traditional” sense. I currently have an SEO company helping me, and they are doing a very good job. However, I am not on the first pages yet for any major keywords (I am on a few first pages for some very minor keywords). My website is probably similar to the top sites in my niche in terms of attractiveness and ease of use and we have taken a lot of time to optimize it for ideal flow to help with conversions. I am basically generating no business at all, even though I have tried many different marketing tactics.
My question is…For a website like mine, that is purely world wide web driven, are first page rankings on my main keywords the only thing that will generate business? And…if I have an attractive, user friendly site and provide a service that people want (my main keyword is searched for 100k times a month), if I get first page rankings what is the likelyhood that I will begin generating some business?
my classifieds site is a tiny more specific…it is horse classifieds – still lots of competition, but more specific than just a broad classifieds site, if that changes anyone’s opinion.
FRAUD ISSUE CONFUSION?
May 3rd
Question by Sam:
Fraud Issue Confusion?
Hello,
I’m incredibly confused on what to do. About 6 months ago I decided that I would begin my own SEO business, when I got slightly more serious. I decided to hire an oversea’s contractor to build me a website, the website looked great even though was blank so I asked him to write me up some content and add images etc. I uploaded this new website about one week ago and this morning I revived a message saying:
” This is an Automated message from the in-built contact form
Contact Name: just reported you to the government for fraud
Contact Number:
E-mail Address: GoFUckyourselfconmen@hotmail.co.uk
Clients Website URL:
Services Selected:
Website Design
|———END MESSAGE———-|
”
First of all, what is this, how have I committed fraud?
What is this fraud and how do I find out who write this horrible message?
It’s definetely not a hack, it’s a comment I got through this morning from my on the web form
CAN MY WEB DESIGN COMPANY NOT GIVE ME ACCESS TO MY FTP LOG IN AND PASSWORD?
May 2nd
Question by Erich:
Can my web design company not give me access to my ftp log in and password?
I have hired a website company to develop and host our website. I am unhappy with the progress they have made and have decided to switch to a different company for design enhancements seo etc…. I have asked them for my ftp username and password to give to the new company for further development of our website and they are not providing it. Is this legal? Can they do this? We have paid them approximately 10k for development
5k for “managed marketing services” and 99/month for secure hosting etc…Thanks
NEW FACTS – WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST COMPUTER SKILLS TO LEARN FOR THE FUTURE? 10 POINTS?

New facts – What would be the ideal personal skills to learn for the future? 10 points?
Hi ! I am a 27yr old MBA student with about 6-9 months of free time. So, I am thinking of learning a personal skill that I will enjoy and might be useful somewhere in future.
Even though I have no background in personal science, I have dabbled a bit in javascript and CSS in the past (very superficially, just enough to have fun with greasemonkey and make world wide web easier to use). I am a software junkie and like to try many different softwares even if they serve the same purpose, Hell I could probably even begin a review blog or something. And I surf the world wide web a lot for tweaks and hacks etc… to make life easier wherever possible.
With this background (probably no background by your standards !), what would you recommend that I should learn ? I am looking to learn something that would be simple to learn and fun. Preferably the skill you mention should not become redundant a few years down the line. It will be superior if I can use it somewhere in daily life so that I stay in practise while using it. I want to ideally learn something that would help me in my job as a manager in the future.
I have surfed to world wide web to narrow down to a few skills and have taken some views from people who know stuff. This is the list of things I have ended up with(even I can see that some of the recommendations are pretty stupid) :
1.Java or C#
2.Dreamweaver, Web design (MySQL and PHP)
3.Adobe
4.Animations
5.MS Access and MS Excel
6.COBOL
7.Brute force software (have no idea what that is !)
8.SEO
9.Linux (emphatically recommended)
10.Something with security, privacy, anti-hacking, something along those lines
11. Cloud computing, Software As A Service, Platform As A Service, Cloud computing
12.Surveillance, Understanding Facial Recognition
Can you please analyse some of these for me from the point of view of Relevance to my work as a manager, Longevity, Ease to learn and Fun.

Most of the services I have found in Google does not provide a way to update my Facebook Fan Page. I want to schedule updates for my Facebook Fan Pages. Is there a way? Also I want to synchronize my Facebook and Twitter accounts and manage them from one location…is that too much? =)

XHTML CSS SLICER, SITEGRINDER, RAPIDWEAVER, DREAMWEAVER OR OTHER?
Apr 30th
Question by hapfut:
XHTML CSS Slicer, Sitegrinder, Rapidweaver, Dreamweaver or other?
I am undecided about which method to go for. I am a designer with HTML and some CSS knowledge but find it a pain, also have a lowish budget..
I considered using a cutting service such as psd2xhtml or htmlizer but they seem costly for just one page.. then there are the software.. I have used Dreamweaver before and hated it (I even preferred to write the HTML code myself from scratch) am now looking into Rapidweaver but it seems limited and all the themes/templates look Blog-like and same-ol same-ol.
Sitegrinder was another contender but it seems to have blended reviews.
Is there anything that is inexpensive that I can use to design my own site , yet have it be XHTML and CSS (not tables), SEO, and all (major) browsers compliant?

Anyone with any experience in these software or companies or know what I am talkingabout ?
thanks.
WHAT CAN I DO IN YOUR COMPANY?

Question by :
What can I do in your company?
I wonder what kind of position i can apply for. I am a Chinese and talk English too. I was a service member of b2b sites and did some dispute, customer retention job, also managed shipping and orders. I know how to set up a site and practised some seo skills. I can learn things pretty fast.
I do not think I have enough experience and i want to work in a huge company to learn more now. However, I really do not know what I can apply for.
If you are working now, is there a job in your company you think I can do?
Thank you.
IS HTML OR WORDPRESS BETTER FOR A WEBSITE?
Apr 29th
Question by whatz_upchuck:
Is HTML or WordPress superior for a website?
I want to set up a business website where I:
1. Sell my own products (audio CDs and e-workbooks).
2. Sell my consulting services.
3. Affiliate-link to other sites (like Amazon).
I was thinking of doing the standard HTML site, but researching WordPress has me reconsidering. WordPress seems to have built-in advantages like Twitter feeds, automatic SEO, automatic pinging of directories etc.
My huge concern is that I want to make sure I have an introductory paragraph about myself and my products, and I want to have photos of the products featured on the front page, above the fold.
I can do that in HTML. Can that be done in WordPress?
Second huge concern: I will want to be able to edit the site later (add new products, etc.). I can do minor editing in HTML, but I know nothing about WordPress (other than…it’s a pain to work with). I do not want to become a programmer either. Are there people out there who can help with the setup and support?
Thanks!
